There is a lot happening around our little lake – mostly in the spring and summer during prime usage. There's work to be done to keep the lake beautiful but also fun to be had. Stick around; we're sure that you'll find something that's right for you!

Many thanks to the Mansfields for hosting a CHLA Friendsgiving. They opened their home to those alone on Thanksgiving or who didn't want to cook a big meal. I hope that you went because Kellie's a great cook!

Many thanks to the Mansfields for hosting this year's end-of-summer ice cream social. We had a blast on their deck with nachos, sundaes, homemade crème brûlée, and to-die-for Wanpen-special crab rangoon! Great food and even better company!

The Subcommittee met at Espresso Royale as a follow up to an initial discussion on the Aquatic Control survey findings in late Jan. A key attendee of this discussion was neighbor TJ Benson of the Illinois Natural History Survey (INHS). Benson shared the survey findings with INHS colleague Joe Parkos, a fish ecologist & conservationist, and they passed along several recommendations. Notes available under Docs.

Aquatic Control came to perform a Fisheries Analysis Survey of our lake. First they collected water samples and data for our water quality analysis. Afterward dissolved oxygen levels and water temperatures were collected, and their fisheries biologists conducted an electrofishing survey around the shoreline or shallow areas of the lake. Captured fish were identified, weighed, measured, and released back into the lake. We should receive the final report in Jan. 2024.

Events: Annual Meeting of the Members & Canadian Geese Egg Oiling
In spring we are busy making the lake and shoreline ready for the new season! Our lake treatment specialists, Jim Long and Mike Mrozik, will start early with algae and aquatic weed control. Be on the lookout for "lake restriction" notifications, such as no swimming or caution for pets.
Events: Summer Solstice Celebration & Annual Lake Assessment Dues
Summer is prime lake usage, so bring out your kayaks, paddle boats, and canoes – and don't forget those life jackets! Our lake specialists will continue treating for algae and aquatic weeds, so be sure to check for for "lake restriction" notifications before enjoying the lake that day!
Events: Ice Cream Social
Summer is coming to the close, but that doesn't mean that the lake can't still be enjoyed with a sweater! Help us say goodbye to summer and hello to fall with our annual ice cream social. Yum!
Events: Ladies of the Lake Bookclub
Just because it's winter doesn't mean that we're done with the lake! During a hard freeze, there's skating and hockey – just be sure that it's frozen solid! When it's not, join the Ladies for some tea and a nice book.
Dues are assessed per lot (not per owner), so any unpaid dues transfer with the property upon sale. Real estate transactions (including sales and refinancing) require a clearance letter from both the Cherry Hills Lake Association and the Cherry Hills’ Homeowners Association. CHLA reserves the right to pursue legal action to collect delinquent dues.
– The annual assessment for our properties is $200 and due on or before June 1.
– After June 1, the amount due increases to $225 ($25 late fee).
For traditional (check) payment, please make checks payable to Cherry Hills Lake Association and mail to the CHLA Treasurer. If you include your email address in the "Memo" portion of the check, they will email you when they process your payment. Your canceled check (available from your bank) will serve as your receipt of payment.
Like last year, in addition to paying by check, you are also able to pay online via the CHLA website. Note that there is a processing surcharge of $6.30 automatically applied to online payments. As part of the online payment process, a receipt will be emailed to you upon completion. Please include your property address in the "Notes" portion of the payment portal only if it is different from your credit card billing address.
